Russia managed to destroy the military capabilities of the Islamic State. The next move of Russia is to destroy the terrorist group economically. Russia plans to do this by destroying their illegal oil business.
Political scientist Nikita Smagin revealed that the damage, caused by numerous air strikes, affects ISIL’s ability to transport stolen oil to the black market.
The terrorists use profits from sales of stolen oil to support their fight against Syria. It was estimated that ISIL makes a daily profit of $2 million from oil sales.
Initially, political pressure was exerted on those who participated in ISIL’s illegal business. However, this approach does not seem to be effective.
On top of all this, the recent terrorist attack in France, Turkey and elsewhere will serve as the breaking point.
Ankara might join in the efforts of those who try to influence buyers of ISIL oil. It appears that Turkey has finally realized how dangerous ISIL is.
Russian aerial campaign destroyed the majority of infrastructure that ISIL used to traffic stolen oil. It was revealed that ISIL is losing $1.5 million on a daily basis due to the inability to transport 60,000 tons of oil daily.
ISIL is slowly losing its oil storage facilities, because 15 oil storage and refining facilities and 525 tankers were destroyed by Russian forces.
Political scientist Nikita Smagin stated that Russia’s campaign has significantly reduced the capabilities and strengths of ISIL.
