Diesel the Police Dog Heroically Dies Protecting His Team During Paris Raid

A police dog was killed during a counter-terrorist operation in the northern Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis.

Diesel, a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, was a member of a French anti-terrorist police unit. The dog bravely died when the French Special Forces raided an apartment building in Saint-Denis on Wednesday morning.

The dog was sent upstairs to scout out a potentially dangerous situation before police officers could move in for an attack. Reports suggest that Diesel died when a female suicide bomber activated her explosive vest.

Three terrorists were killed and five others were arrested. The siege targeted Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged mastermind of the terrorist acts, previously thought to have been in Syria, as well as Salah Abdeslam and a potential ninth assailant.

On November 13, eight extremists wearing explosive belts attacked several venues across Paris, killing 129 people and injuring hundreds more at restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall and in the vicinity of the Stade de France stadium. The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks.
