The avocado is one of the healthiest fruits. It is rich in fatty acids, carotenoids and many other nutrients known to prevent heart disease and cancer. It is also good for vision, healthy joints, skin and it fights obesity.
According to studies, the avocado contains carotenoids and monounsaturated fats which fight cancer. Results of studies also revealed that consumption of avocado reduced the risk of breast cancer and prostate cancer and other types of cancer.
The avocado is also rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that also protect cells from cancer.
It was concluded that compounds found in avocados can successfully stop cancer from metastasizing. Myeloid leukemia (AML) can be fought with a type of fat found in avocado known as avocatin B.
This research on the abilities of avocatin B was published in Cancer Research in June 2015. It was revealed that avocatin B has the ability to target leukemia stem cells responsible for AML return.
The avocado contains substances which prevent HDL cholesterol from building up and further protects the heart from atherosclerosis. High levels of potassium are also beneficial for hypertension control.
One study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that a diet enriched with avocado has the ability to reduce the level of cholesterol in comparison to a diet rich in complex carbohydrates.
If you want to add avocado into your everyday diet, you can make guacamole, smoothie with avocado, salad with avocado or an avocado pudding.
Because all important nutrients in avocado are located near its skin, make sure you peel it carefully.
