It was reported that Kim Jong-un’s wife did not make a single public appearance in the past seven months.
The North Korean leader’s spouse Ri Sol-Ju last last seen in Pyongyang back in March.
Her disappearance has sparked rumours she is either pregnant or more worryingly, she has fallen out with Kim and his sister.
A former singer, Mrs Ri was introduced as Kim’s wife in July 2012 and made an appearance in April last year wearing what looked like a wedding ring.
But she hasn’t been seen in over half a year and her disappearance has started to spark questions.
Toshimitsu Shigemura, a professor and expert on North Korea, told The Daily Telegraph: “There are several possible reasons, including that she is pregnant or that there is some sort of problem between the two of them.”
Another theory from experts is Mrs Ri may have fallen foul of Kim’s younger sibling Kim Yo-jong who is rumored to be the force behind the leader’s notoriety.
Last year his sister became head of North Korea’s propaganda and agitation department, responsible for bolstering Kim’s reputation as a ruthless leader.
This year Mrs Ri has made only three public appearances before dropping off the radar entirely.
Kim however, is regularly being papped in the North Korean media at various appearances and events.
Recently Kim issued a shock warning to South Korea, warning consequences if the “psychological warfare tactics” used against North Korea don’t stop.
