Police almost kill teens for setting up telescope that cops thought ‘looked like a rifle’

Two NDSU students were almost killed by police officers who thought that their telescope was a rifle. In addition to this, police officers even believed they wore a tactical vest, which was in fact a simple sweater.

Levi Joraanstad and Colin Waldera planned to set up their telescope behind their apartment garage in order to take pictures of the moon.

Suddenly, they were blinded by bright light. Initially they ignored this. However, they heard voices warning them to cease their actions or they will be shot.

First they thought that bullies were trying to harass them. Afterwards, they realized that two police officers are holding them at a gun point.

Police officers explained that another officer patrolling the area noticed them and informed them of their suspicious behavior. He thought that the telescope was a rifle.

What initially seemed like a joke to students, could have turned into something serious.
