Israeli Likud Minister Yuval Steinitz won’t accept Iranian forces near its border. He wants every major world power, including the US and Russia, to know the Israeli attitude on this issue.
According to Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, Israel sees Syria responsible for anything that happens in Syrian territory. They consider that Syria has crossed the line during the recent attack in the Quneitra region.
According to reports, Syria conducted a military training in the occupied Golan Heights. It was said that they were getting ready for a possible ISIS invasion and because of the increased presence of Hezbollah fighters in Syria. In 2006, Israel and Hezbollah were involved in a 34-day war.
The announcement was made on August 17, saying that terrorist cells would infiltrate the Israeli side of the Golan and attack Jewish and Druze villages there. Such act would influence a strong Israeli response in Syria.
In order to give protection to those who are threatened by the Islamists, Israel might move its borders east.
Media in Israel is worried that armed conflict might happen between Russian and Israeli forces in Syria. If such thing is to happen, Tehran would launch long-range missile assault on the Jewish state as a response.
In addition to this, reports say that Iran, Syria, Hezbollah and Russia have joined their forces in order to fight the Islamic state.
Each of the parties involved will defend certain region of the country: Russia will engage in Latakia, Hama and parts of Aleppo province. On the other hand, Iran will engage in the capital Damascus and the Syrian side of the Golan Heights.
