A shocking scene was captured on video. Passersby decided to film a man who decided to end his life by jumping off a metal tower.
Jorge Fidel Martinez Labrador scaled the metal tower following a family row after authorities caught him high on drugs while he was out walking with his nephew and took the youngster away.
Negotiators called his relatives to the scene in a bid to stop Jorge – known to as Oscar to mates – from jumping.
They even allowed his two sisters into a firefighters’ cherry picker to try to talk him down by telling him his nephew had been released from social service care and they were ready to forgive him.
But he ignored their pleas after two hours clinging to the pylon and jumped after shouting: “See you in Hell.”
And shockingly, the distressing images were streamed live to 80,000 people on a social media feed and showed him landing on the road below by the wheels of the fire truck. He died instantly.
Witnesses could be heard gasping and screaming as he made his fateful decision and let go of the pylon.
The tragic incident happened at around 3pm local time on Thursday in the Mexican Pacific resort of Mazatlan in the state of Sinaloa, which is renowned for its big-game fishing.
Jorge, a habitual drug user, was said to have been high on drugs when he scaled the pylon.
At one point authorities had to remove mobile fast food vendors heading to the area to make money after they saw crowds of onlookers starting to gather.
The government agency that took Jorge’s nephew into care pending an investigation offered its condolences to his family after the tragedy.
A spokesman said: “We share the pain his family is feeling and have offered our support to his relatives.”
