A potentially dangerous situation in a French train was stopped by the US soldiers and their friend. Three brave guys overpowered a guy who entered a train carriage with an AK and a handgun.
While they were on a Thalys train, Alek Skarlatos, his friend servicemen Spencer Stone and student Anthony Sadler heard a gunshot and breaking glass. When they saw a guy enter a train carriage with an AK and a handgun, they ducked down and decided to follow him.
They decided to follow him and confronted him down the narrow carriage. Skarlatos seized his AK and used it to hit him in his head. They started a fight in which the gunman cut Spencer a few times with a box cutter. Skarlatos, Spencer and Sadler managed to disable the guy and beat him down until he was unconscious.
The gunman was 26 years old and probably of Moroccan origin.
Guys who disabled the gunman later discovered that he had a cut on his throat and that he was bleeding. Airman Mr Stone performed first aid even though his hand was also injured.
Mr. Skarlatos explained that they had two choices – to either fight or run. They decided to fight.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuv and White House spokesperson expressed their gratitude for the heroic actions of these three young men.
There were 500 passengers on this train. Three were injured in the attack.
