When a recent FIFA scandal happened, it became quite obvious that a lurking motive behind it was to take away the WORLD Cup 2018 from its host Russia. After all these unfortunate events, it is quite likely that Russia will lose the hosting of the 2018 World Cup.
Day after Blatter’s resignation it was revealed that following the FIFA corruption scandal, FBI had started an investigation into the Russia 2018 World Cup.
In order to remove the right given to Russia to host 2018 World Cup, there has to be evidence of bribery during the process of selection.
The independent chairman of FIFA’s audit and compliance committee, Domenico Scala, confirmed that there is a possibility that Russia and Qatar could be removed from the list of hosts if the proof of bribery and purchased votes in the bidding process appears.
Up to this date, there is no proof of bribery. Both Russia and Qatar have denied misconduct of their bids for the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. Their bids are not the subject of charges against FIFA officials declared by U.S. prosecutors.
In case the hosting rights are forcibly taken away from Russia, it will benefit from saving a lot of money which would be directed to a better use and boost Putin’s popularity since the USA could be taking away something that was lawfully Russia’s.
