A dark strand of plasma broke away from the Sun. The first eruption was followed by another filament eruption. This activity of the Sun can be seen in a video by NASA.
Magnetic forces surrounding the Sun keep these filaments of plasma above the surface of the Sun. However, these magnetic forces are not always able to keep filaments of dark plasma from breaking away.
There is a filament which is headed towards the Earth. Our planet has a protective magnetosphere and it is going to repel the filament. If our planet was not protected, the radiation from a solar blast would cause skin cancer, damage the electronic communication and destroy the Earth.
Plasma blasts and solar eruptions are typical of the activity that is happening on the Sun.
The eruption of plasma filament can be seen quite clearly in the video filmed by the NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. This video was filmed in extreme ultraviolet wavelengths of 304 angstroms.
