Residents of LA are in danger of a massive earthquake, NASA warns. It is believed that there is a 99.9% possibility of a massive earthquake causing immense damage to Los Angeles sometime in the next two years.
The pressure is accumulating under the surface of Los Angeles area due to succession of mini-tremors. The warning of this has been issued by the group’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena.
In addition to this, a leftover strain from a past earthquake that struck the town of La Habra in 2014 increases the danger of a future earthquake.
The earthquake is expected sometime before April 2018. NASA expert, JPL geophysicist Dr Andrea Donnellan further explained that there is still enough energy left after the La Habra earthquake. This energy could result in a 6.1 to 6.3 magnitude earthquake.
The experts from NASA laboratory including Dr Donnellan and her colleagues used radar and GPS to locate all tremors in LA in order to have enough evidence for this claim. Based on their extensive research, an LA quake is virtually unavoidable.
Further research revealed that an earthquake of 5.0 or higher will strike somewhere within the 60 mile radius of LA.
On the other hand, seismologist Robert Graves is not so certain that this will happen. He is quite doubtful of this prediction.
According to him, saying that there is a 99,9% chance that something could happen is actually confirming that the earthquake will happen with certainty.
If someone says that, it means that they are certain. He further explains that such level of certainty is unattainable and that he doubts that they used proper methods to come to such conclusions.
