In order to stop humanitarian crisis that is taking place in Europe, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop urges European countries to join air strikes against the Islamic State. She believes that this is the only way to stop refugee crisis.
The source of the crisis has to be dealt with using military and political solution in both Syria and Iraq.
The US is conducting air strikes against the ISIS jihadists together with Australia, Denmark, Canada, France, Jordan, the Netherlands, the UK, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
These air strikes are considered to be the most effective way to fight ISIS. Even though the number of members of this terrorist group has been decreased by more than 7,000 fighters, they still manage to recruit a lot of new members.
In February, the number of 20,000 foreign fighters came to Syria and Iraq. It is believed that another 10,000 Europeans could join ISIS by the end of 2015.
Khaled El Shami, political editor of al-Quds newspaper, stated that the invasion of Iraq by the US in 2003 is the main reason why ISIS exists. He also added that air strikes won’t solve the problem. Because of this, ISIS is expanding to Libya.
Many civilians are dying because of the air strikes against ISIS. During the US bombing of assumed ISIS positions, at least 459 civilians were killed. Moreover, further bombing won’t stop the problem with the refugees.
So far, 5,800 air strikes were launched on both Iraq and Syria.
