A New 50p Coin Is Going To Be Coloured And It Looks Amazing

In case you missed it, last year The Royal Mint released a series of Peter Rabbit 50p coins to commemorate the life and work of Beatrix Potter.

After their success, The Royal Mint announced yesterday they will be releasing a new set of limited edition coloured coins emblazoned with Potter’s Peter Rabbit – as well as other much-loved characters such as Jeremy Fisher, Benjamin Bunny and Tom Kitten.

You can check them out in the video below:

The first set of Peter Rabbit-themed coins were produced to mark the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth and depicted Jemima Puddleduck, Squirrel Nutkin and Mrs Tiggywinkle.

The new set of coins are a collector’s dream – but they’ll have to cash in many boring bog-standard 50p coins to pay for them.
Created by Royal Mint coin designer Emma Noble in collaboration with Penguin Random House, the colourful coins are available to buy from The Royal Mint website for £60.

You can still buy the silver Beatrix Potter commemorative coins for a tenner – and it may well be worth forking out for, as they are currently selling on eBay for up to £600.

However, you’ll have to wait your turn. The Royal Mint have confirmed there is currently a waiting time of ‘over an hour’ to purchase the coins online due to high demand.

The Royal Mint’s Anne Jessopp said:

While we always knew that the Beatrix Potter characters would be a huge hit, the enormous popularity of the 2016 set exceeded everyone’s expectations.

The coins sold out almost instantly as people raced to collect a complete set of the four friends.

We’re delighted to be able to present another group of her exquisite characters, giving them a new lease of life on our specially-designed coloured commemorative coins.

Potter’s prolific fictional rodent, Peter Rabbit, is the only character edition available to buy on the Royal Mint website at the time of writing.

The Jeremy Fisher coin is due to be released on June 5, Tom Kitten will be available on July 31 and Benjamin Bunny’s coin will be out in September.
