Researchers believe that the Piri-Reis map is evidence that Ancient Civilizations once lived in Antarctica.
The Piri-Reis map, created by one of the most famous Turkish officers was a map lost for centuries, established in 1513; it was created with the use of much older maps that are said to predate numerous ancient cultures. The most shocking details about the map were the continent of Antarctica free of ice.
As a matter of a fact, the Piri-Reis map is so precise, that it included details geographical features of Antarctica’s northern ridge, three hundred years before the continent was officially discovered.
However, the Piri-Reis map is not the only ancient map that shockingly depicts the now icy continent free of ice.
Just to mention a few, the Oronce Fine chart published in 1521 also includes detailed depictions of Antarctica when it was free of ice.
More intriguing is the fact that this map describes rivers and lakes on Antarctica, which modern-day satellite images have confirmed to exist.
However, how is it possible that these charts even exist? Moreover, the greater question no one has been able to answer is: Who undertook a global survey of our planet at a time when Antarctica was Ice free?
All of this leads towards numerous interesting theories that have become a possibility in recent decades.
When we talk about Antarctica, we have to understand the content better. With its 14.0 million square kilometers, Antarctica is the fifth largest continent on our planet, and in other words, is twice the size of Australia. Some 170 million years ago, Antarctica was part of the supercontinent called Gondwana. Around 25 million years ago, Antarctica as we know it, gradually broke apart from Gondwana.
The most interesting part is the fact that Antarctica was not always cold, dry, and covered in ice sheets. During its long history, the now icy continent was located farther north which allowed the tropical climate to flourish on Antarctica. In the distant past, the content was covered with forests, and inhabited by various ancient life forms.
Interestingly, a scientific expedition that took place in 2016 discovered a treasure trove of fossils in Antarctica as they have unearthed over a ton of 71 million-year-old dinosaur fossils. Most of them belonged to prehistoric marine reptiles, birds and even ducks that inhabited the now-icy continent in the distant past.
According to creation.com, the Northern Hemisphere Arctic lands are well-known for their warm-climate fossil plants and animals from the Mesozoic and early Cenozoic of the uniformitarian geological column.
The fact that in the distant past, Antarctica was an icy free continent located further north means that just as civilization developed on other continents, it is not unlikely that the same happened on Antarctica. Finding evidence of such civilizations would be an extremely difficult task, since today, Antarctica is composed of around ninety-eight percent ice which is over a kilometer thick.
According to Professor Charles Hapgood, it is very likely that in the distant past, when Antarctica was Ice-Free, civilization could have developed there. Professor Hapgood suggests that inhabitants of Antarctica fled the continent when natural disasters transformed the continent into a 14 million square km of dangerous icy terrain.
Interestingly, in the last couple of decades, several people have claimed to have discovered constructions protruding from the ice at Antarctica. Many researchers have come to believe that there even are Giant Pyramids buried under thick layers of Ice.
