Astronomers have just discovered a previously unknown object in Neptune’s vicinity. Astronomers are quite puzzled by this object since its behaviour can’t be explained.
The mystery object orbits our sun on a plane tilted 110 degrees above our orbital planet. It also orbits our sun backwards, opposite the orbital direction of ALL remaining objects within our solar system.
It seems that experts are only now learning how mysterious and beautiful our solar system actually is.
Each day astronomers learn something new and realize how little we actually know about our place in the universe.
Now, astronomers using the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) stumbled across something incredibly fascinating located beyond the orbit of Neptune, in the outer edges of our solar system.
The anomaly they spotted is called Niku, which comes from the Chinese word for ‘Rebellious.’
The mystery object which follows a strange orbit beyond Neptune is anything but ordinary. In fact, the icy object orbits our sun almost perpendicularly in comparison to the planets and celestial bodies of our solar system.
In addition, astronomers have spotted that ‘Niku’ orbits our sun on a plane tilted 110 degrees above our orbital planet.
If all of the above wasn’t strange enough, it turns out that ‘Niku’ orbits our sun BACKWARDS, opposite the orbital direction of ALL remaining objects within our solar system.
Simply put, the objects I unique, mysterious and as strange as it gets.
All of the planets, dwarf planets, and moons in our solar system revolve around the sun in a counter-clockwise manner or prograde rotation. Niku doesn’t. Niku is different. Niku is rebellious.
So what us up with Niku? Why is it so weird?
While experts could have easily dismissed the anomalous behavior of Niku as the result of a collision that made Niku this way, there are certain things that just don’t add up.
Apparently, Niku isn’t alone in its rebellious dance around our sun. According to experts, there is a group of rebellious objects that orbit our sun at that particular inclination and direction.
After spotting Niku, Michele Bannister, an astronomer at Queens University, Belfast tweeted: “I hope everyone has buckled their seat belts because the outer solar system just got a lot weirder.”
So Niku… are you and your strange buddies the ultimate proof planet Nine exists?
Researchers still haven’t figured it out, but some suggest that Niku and its rebellious friends may help us find Planet X, aka Planet Nine.
Can the anomalous characteristics spotted by researchers be attributed to Planet Nine? Is it possible that planet Nine made Niku so… weird?
Researchers know that our solar system’s celestial objects DO NOT just start orbiting opposite to everything else in the solar system. Something must have made Niku and its friends turn that way and start behaving erratically.
Planet Nine certainly is ONE theory that could help us understand why Niku is so weird.
Speaking to the New Scientists, Matthew Holman, a senior astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center sad: “It suggests that there’s more going on in the outer solar system than we’re fully aware of.”
Konstantin Batygin, one of the scientists who is hunting for Planet Nine says: “Whenever you have some feature that you can’t explain in the outer solar system, it’s immensely exciting because it’s in some sense foreshadowing a new development.”
